An Advance fare is usually cheaper but tied to a specific train and non-refundable when plans simply change. Its time or date may be changed before departure while keeping the same origin and destination, subject to a fee and fare difference. Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets are limited to permitted travel periods, while Anytime fares provide greater flexibility. Open the restriction code before purchasing to check the operator, valid trains, route and break-of-journey rules.
SplitTickets divides one journey into several separate tickets. Passengers do not normally need to leave the train at each split point, but the train must stop at every station where the tickets divide. Keep every ticket or QR code for the complete journey and follow the specified services. If a Railcard discount is used, the Railcard must be valid for the passenger and fare on the travel date and available for inspection.
Open an e-ticket in the app before reaching an area with unreliable connectivity. Do not activate a mobile ticket until the itinerary has been checked because an activated or scanned ticket may become non-refundable. If a service is cancelled and the passenger decides not to travel, an unused ticket can be submitted for a refund. Delay compensation after completing the journey is generally claimed from the responsible train operator.
Refund eligibility depends on the fare. Flexible tickets are generally refundable before 23:59 on the day preceding travel, subject to a possible administration fee. Advance tickets are not refundable for a change of mind but may be changed. SplitTickets are assessed by the conditions of each component ticket, so a combination of flexible and non-refundable fares may result in only a partial refund.
